99 Tigers Wins 4 PromaxBDA Awards

Los Angeles, CA & New York, NY — 99 Tigers director Brett Karley has won quadruple honors from PromaxBDA. Karley directed the show open for MSG Network’s “Friday Night Knicks.” At the PromaxBDA Sports Media Marketing Awards, his piece won Gold for Best TV/Video Campaign, a Best Editing Gold, and a Best Director Silver Award.

99 Tigers, the NY- and LA-based creative services agency, also won Best Long-Form Promo Silver for its MSG Media “You Are Here” video. Karley shot and edited “You Are Here” in collaboration with 99 Tigers creative director/writer David Seeley.

“It’s an honor to receive these awards,” Karley said. “It’s especially gratifying to be recognized for attempting some of the more ambitious executions.”

The “Friday Night Knicks” open features Robert Randolph and the Family Band heading to a soundstage from multiple New York locations, by subway, cab, and street. At the stage, they pump out a soulful, up-tempo number written explicitly for MSG’s Friday Knicks game night.

“Instead of going back and forth from the band to clips, I wanted them to share the screen,” said Karley. “So we shot them in a wide-open space in front of larger-than-life video panels of Knicks highlights.”

The open had to last two full seasons, “so the highlights had to be updateable for different games, new stars, and traded players,” Karley said. “Our solution was using large green screen panels, allowing MSG to swap out footage as needed.”

For the look, Karley kept the colors of the band’s world desaturated, allowing the Knicks highlights to stand out vibrantly.

Seeley credits MSG VP/creative director Doug Field for having the vision to create something different “and seeing it through to the end. That was especially true on our “You Are Here” video.”

“Doug wanted ‘You Are Here’ to emotionally capture the feeling you get from going to events at the Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and the Beacon Theater,” Karley said. “The event itself is a highlight, but so is the anticipation and journey getting there. So we captured these venues but also fans in jerseys on the subway, people walking into the sparkling lights of the Beacon, and more. It added up to a truly relatable New York experience.”

truTV’s Diana Lochridge Joins 99 Tigers

Played Key Role in truTV Rebrand; Launching New Division 98 Monkeys

NEW YORK, VENICE & DALLAS, January 10, 2013  |  Diana Lochridge, who recently left her position as VP of creative services at truTV, has joined 99 Tigers, a branding and promotion company based in New York, Venice and Dallas.

While at truTV, Lochridge played a key role in one of television’s most successful recent rebrands, helping to reshape its identity from Court TV to a high-energy home of “actuality” programming, featuring real people and real situations in an entertaining context.

At 99 Tigers, Lochridge will be working on a variety of branding and promotion initiatives. She’ll also be heading up a new 99 Tigers division, 98 Monkeys, which will focus on leveraging her unique blend of comedic and dramatic broadcast advertising and promotion.

“Starting up a division with 99 Tigers was an easy decision,” said Lochridge. “They have some of the best creatives working in television.”

Lochridge previously worked at VH1, HBO, and broadcast agencies Charlie Company and Crossroads Television. She’s worked with 99 Tigers’ creative team for decades.

“Di is a powerhouse in our industry and a close, longtime friend,” said Glenn Lazzaro, creative director at 99 Tigers. “I couldn’t ask for a better creative partner.”

Lochridge complements her creative skills with an extensive strategic and production background, noted 99 Tigers executive producer Molly Christie Benson: “She makes my life easier as an EP, because she can handle all sides of a big, challenging campaign.”

99 Tigers creative director David Seeley, who’s worked with Lochridge frequently since the ’90s, prizes her sense of humor above all. “Di creates killer spots and long-form pieces,” he said. “But comedy is her secret weapon. We can’t wait to see what we can all do together as one team.”

99 Tigers is a creative services agency serving America’s leading TV networks and entertainment brands. Based in New York, Venice and Dallas, it delivers strategic creative from concept to production to post. The 99 Tigers team brands and promotes with a focus on live-action on-air campaigns and high-impact sales videos. Recent clients include Bravo, Oxygen, truTV, MSG Networks, CBS Television Distribution and Microsoft.
